AT A YOUNG AGE, STORM DIAL, A SENIOR AT EMPORIA HIGH SCHOOL, REALIZED THAT BECOMING EDUCATED MUST BE A TOP PRIORITY IN ORDER TO BETTER HIS FUTURE. KNOWLEDGE IS THE KEY TO NOT ONLY UNLOCKING DOORS, BUT SECURING VALUABLE OPPORTUNITIES WHICH CROSS YOUR PATH. TEACHERS HOLD THIS KEY AND ARE PATIENTLY WAITING FOR STUDENTS TO TAKE IT AND APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE TO THEIR OWN LIVES.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

ALEX HAMMEKE, A SENIOR AT ELLINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL, SAYS SPORTS ARE A CLASS LIKE GEOMETRY, HISTORY AND ENGLISH. WHILE FOOTBALL WON’T EACH YOU THE PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM, SWIMMING WON’T TEACH YOU ALL THE U.S. PRESIDENTS AND SOCCER WON’T TEACH YOU PROPER PUNCTUATION, THEY CAN TEACH THINGS THAT CAN’T BE TAUGHT IN A TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM. ACCOUNTABILITY, INTEGRITY, TEAMWORK, RESPECT, DISCIPLINE AND LEADERSHIP ARE SOME OF THE MANY ABILITIES THAT YOU LEARN IN HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through November 24, 2018

WITHOUT COACHES, SCHOOL ACTIVITIES WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. THESE INDIVIDUALS DEDICATE THEIR TIME TO TRAINING STUDENTS TO BE THE BEST THEY CAN BE. COACHES NOT ONLY WANT THEIR PLAYERS TO SUCCEED AT THEIR ACTIVITY, THEY WANT THEM TO SUCCEED AT LIFE. RACHEL SCHENKER, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM OSWEGO HIGH SCHOOL, SAYS HER COACHES WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO ENSURE THAT SHE HAD THE BEST POSSIBLE CHANCE TO SUCCEED ON AND OFF THE COURT.

SCHOOL ACTIVITES PROVIDE A SAFE, STRUCTURED PLACE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO DISCOVER WHAT THEY’RE GOOD AT AND WHAT THEY REALLY ENJOY, SAYS LINDSEY ANDERSON, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM CHAPMAN HIGH SCHOOL. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS TO KEEP TRYING EVERYTHING UNTIL THEY FIND A PLACE THAT IS A GOOD FIT FOR THEM. THIS COULD BE IN ATHLETICS, AGRICULTURE, DRAMA, MUSIC, CULINARY, ART, BUSINESS OR PUBLIC SPEAKING. THERE IS SOMETHING OUT THERE FOR EVERYONE AND ACTIVITY PROGRAMS MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR INDIVIDUALS TO FIND THAT SOMETHING.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

COYD GARDNER, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM CENTRAL HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL IN RICHMOND, KS, SAYS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IS THE PRIMARY PURPOSE FOR ATTENDING SCHOOL, AND SOMETIMES THAT GET OVERSHADOWED BY EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. STUDENTS NEED TO REMEMBER THEIR PRIORITIES AND STAY ON TOP OF THEIR SCHOOL WORK. HOWEVER, WHILE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IS IMPORTANT, IT ISN’T THE ONLY PART OF A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES PROVIDE A CONDUIT THROUGH WHICH STUDENTS CAN PICK UP ESSENTIAL SOCIAL SKILLS THAT WILL BE REQUIRED WHEN THEY GET OUT IN THE REAL WORLD. THIS IS ANOTHER REASON WHY EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ARE AN INDISPENSIBLE PART OF AN EDUCATION.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF SUCCESS FOR MANY STUDENTS, SAYS JACE WATKINS, A SENIOR AT BURLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL. WHETHER IT BE ATHLETIC ENDEAVORS, CLUBS OR A FINE ARTS ACTIVITY, IT ALLOWS STUDENTS TO DEVELOP AND ACHIEVE OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM. LESSONS OF TEAMWORK, DISCIPLINE AND COMMITMENT ARE VALUES LEARNED THROUGH ACTIVITY PROGRAMS THAT WILL REAP BENEFITS IN LIFE BEYOND HIGH SCHOOL.

CYNAE WILEY, A SENIOR AT SOUTH HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL, SAYS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IS WHAT STUDENT ATHLETES NEED TO STRIVE FOR. YOU’VE GOT TO SUCCEED IN ACADEMICS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN ATHLETICS. KEEPING UP GRADES SHOULD BE THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY AND THE REASON YOU GET TO PLAY THE SPORTS YOU ENJOY. THEY ARE A REWARD FOR ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS IN SCHOOL. MOST OF US AREN’T GOING TO MAKE A LIVING BEING INVOLVED IN ATHLETICS. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GET A GOOD EDUCATION TO GET A GOOD JOB, AND THAT REQUIRES EFFORT AND GOOD GRADES.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.
