Weekly Announcements

I hope everyone is able to enjoy time with family and friends, and most importantly, get some quality practice time in. It is always such a quick start to the season with first meet competitions starting next week (November 26). Don't eat too much turkey . . . Gobble, Gobble!

With no school for a few days, this is a great time to get the required online coaches exam completed. All senior high varsity head coaches must successfully complete Swimming/Diving Test Part 1 and score 90% or better. This online test is open and available to access from November 5 - December 7. Be sure to contact your school's athletic director for instructions including your User ID and Password. Those coaches who do not receive a score of 90% or better must take a Test 2. If they do not score 90% or better on the Test 2, their school's name will be published in the Activities Journal. Any school whose coaches do not complete an online test by December 7 will pay a fine of $25.

With first competitions rapidly approaching, please be sure to always be positive and professional. The KSHSAA places top priority on sportsmanship! It is imperative that coaches and officials willingly accept the responsibility of being positive role models. The ethics, integrity, and sportsmanship exhibited by adults have a profound effect on the young people who participate.

Member schools may apply per KSHSAA Rule #4 - Olympic Development Program (ODP) for their athletes to swim in USA Swimming sanctioned meets. A complete list of the approved USA Meets for 2018-19 was included in the Week 1 Announcements and can be found on the KSHSAA Website. KSHSAA Member Schools must apply by writing a letter on school letterhead, 30 days prior to the event, requesting approval for their athletes to swim in the USA Swimming Meet. The letter must be signed by: Principal, Athletic Director, Scholastic Swim Coach, & Athlete. These meets will count towards the limit of 10 meets for a season. Schools who have submitted ODP Meet Requests include: Lawrence Free State, Derby, Wichita-Bishop Carroll, McPherson, Maize, Shawnee Mission East, Wichita East, Wichita-Kapaun Mt. Carmel, Wichita North, Wichita-Trinity Academy, Mill Valley, and Maize South.

If your school hosts a meet that does not follow the normal order and length of events such as a Relay Meet or Pentathlon Meet, be sure to request permission from the KSHSAA in writing providing meet details such as meet name, location, date, events, and participating schools. Requests can be emailed to rgarman@kshsaa.org. Schools who have submitted requests include: Lansing, Wichita East, Olathe Northwest, and Wichita Heights.
