IMPORTANT VOLLEYBALL INFORMATION
FOR 2018-2019


IMPORTANT DATES FOR SEASON
Important dates for 2018-2019 include but are limited to the following:

August 13 - First Day of Practice for the 2018 Season (HS/MS)
August 24 - First Day of Competition for HS Season
October 16 - Regional Tournaments (Class 1A)
October 20 - Sub-State Tournaments (All Classes)
October 26-27 - State Tournaments (All Classes)

KSHSAA COACHING SCHOOL JULY 30, 31 AND AUGUST 1
Coaches, mark your calendars to attend the KSHSAA Coaching School in Topeka at the Capital Plaza/Manor Conference Center. Volleyball sessions will be offered each day (Monday-July 30, Tuesday-July 31, Wednesday-August 1). When clinicians are secured, topics will be provided.

NEW - Changes with Classification
The 2018-2019 school year will see some changes in volleyball.

Classification Numbers: 6A=36; 5A=36; 4A=36; 3A=64; 2A=64; 1A=117.

Number of State Tournaments: In 2018-2019 there will be 6 classifications and therefore 6 state tournaments (6A & 5A: Salina-Tony’s Pizza Events Center; 4A & 3A: Hutchinson-Sports Arena; 2A: Hays -Ft. Hays State University; 1A: Emporia (White Auditorium).

Class 1A Regional Tournaments: Volleyball schools competing in Class 1A will be participating in one of 16 regional tournaments across the state on Tuesday, October 16. The top 2 teams at each tournament will advance to their sub-state tournament. See Volleyball Manual, pg. 23-24 for more information.

Sub-state Seeding - Classes 6A, 5A, 4A: The 36 schools in each of these 3 classifications will be divided into 2 groups on an east/west geographical basis. The 18 schools will be seeded into 4 sub-state tournaments of 4-5 schools. The top 4 seeds will host a sub-state tournament. Tournaments will be seeded on Saturday, October 13 @ 10AM.

Clarification on Varsity Dual Matches
A HIGH SCHOOL DUAL VARSITY MATCH (ONLY ONE MATCH PLAYED) shall be the best three-out-of-five set match. The first team to win three sets shall be the winner of the match. The 4th and 5th sets shall not be played unless necessary to determine the winner of the match. All sets shall be 25 points (no cap). The 5th and deciding set shall be 15 points (no cap), and the team must win by two points.

NOTE: Leagues/schools are not permitted to change or alter this NFHS playing rule.

CLASSIFICATION CHANGES FOR 2018-2019 SEASON
The 2018-2019 school year will see a change in classifications. The KSHSAA will change from 8 classifications/divisions to 6 classifications. Classification numbers will include the following: 6A = 36 schools; 5A = 36 schools; 4A = 36 schools; 3A = 64 schools; 2A = 64 schools; 1A = approximately 117 schools (1A NOTE: this number will be diminished due to Cooperative Agreements).
