WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS
October
22

THANKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!
Thanks to the 119 officials who officiated at one of 48 Sub-State Tournaments on October 20. The KSHSAA and it’s member schools are appreciative of your time and dedication, knowledge of the rules and commitment to the KSHSAA interscholastic volleyball program.

CONGRATULATIONS TO 48 QUALIFYING SCHOOL TEAMS
Congratulations to the 48 schools who won their sub-state tournament on October 20. Sub-State Champion school administrators & coaches each received an envelope from the KSHSAA via your sub-state manager. Please review the enclosed material and pay special attention to information in the 2018-19 KSHSAA Volleyball Manual. A thorough review of the material will ensure a well-prepared experience at the 2018 state tournament. Coaches, remember: Once the tournament play starts on Friday, only those 12 players may be on your roster throughout the tournament.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT OFFICIATING TEAMS
Congratulations to the 36 officials who have been identified to officiate at one of 6 KSHSAA state volleyball tournaments. Each state tournament will have 6 officials working pool play on Friday, October 26. 4 officials will return to work the semi-final, consolation and championship matches on Saturday, October 27. As always, we challenge the officials to be the best tournament team!

STATE TOURNAMENTS OCTOBER 26 & OCTOBER 27
It’s hard to believe we have reached the last week of the season! 48 schools across the state now have their sites on a state title. State pairings were posted Sunday morning (10/21). As a reminder, this is an even-numbered year, therefore, the even-numbered classes at multiple tournament sites (6A, 4A) will start state competition first on Friday morning at 8:30 AM followed by the schools in the odd-numbered classes (5A, 3A), beginning action no earlier than 3:30 PM Friday afternoon. Competition in single tournament sites (2A, 1A) will begin competition on Friday morning at 10AM. Saturday competition begins at 10AM for 6A, 4A, 2A, 1A. Classes 5A and 3A will begin their Saturday semi-final matches at 2PM.

STATE TOURNAMENTS = HIGH EXPECTATIONS BY ALL!
The state tournament is a time when expectations are high for all teams (both schools & officials) to perform at their best level. Hopefully officials and coaches have enforced NFHS & KSHSAA rules and policies of the game throughout the season. Don’t assume - please set your expectations for and enforce the correct procedure for: • Court Protocol (start of match, end of set, split sets & end of the match); • Pro-longed Huddles; • Players shagging balls; • Appropriate behavior & sportsmanship by all; • Bench decorum; • Libero situations & correct replacement; • Substitutions; • Head coach standing & where allowed; etc.

UNSPORTING CONDUCT NOT WELCOME AT STATE TOURNAMENTS
Unsporting conduct includes actions which are unbecoming to an ethical, fair and honorable individual. It consists of acts of deceit, disrespect or vulgarity and includes taunting. No player, teammate, coach and/or team attendant shall act in an unsporting manner while on or near the court before, during or between sets. (12-1; 12-2-1). Remember: any celebration by a team after a “good play” must be directed toward teammates and not the opponent.

#1 TEAM = TOURNAMENT MANAGERS, OFFICIALS, SCHOOL ADM.
6 State Championship teams will be crowned on October 27. The success of the state volleyball tournaments will be a product of many groups of individuals. Tournament managers take care of all managerial details involved with the tournament; officials are in charge of the actual match on the court; and school administrators are a key link in crowd control and team assistance. Good luck to all teams on being #1! [ Continue ]
